The Hellenic Parliament Foundation for Parliamentarism and Democracy will hold an online event on Thursday, March 4, at 19.00, in honour of Constantine D. Gardikas (1913-2003), Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Athens.
Born in Alexandria and originating from Langadia (Peloponnese), C. Gardikas studied Medicine at the University of Athens, receiving his doctorate in 1942. He then pursued postgraduate studies in the UK (Master of Science 1947 and Ph.D. 1949). He served as a doctor at Evangelismos Hospital until 1981.
As the Director of one of the Medical Units at Evangelismos Hospital since 1955, and as a Professor of Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Athens since 1968, Constantine Gardikas combined clinical practice with the training of young doctors and students. He also distinguished himself in research: in 1969 he founded a research unit at Evangelismos. He is considered as the founder of Clinical Hematology in Greece.
